Do you love the feel of a pen and paper in your hands while writing your book? Or a word Processor on a laptop with the sound of keys clicking away as you type?

I’m going with “old school” longhand. I get more creative with a pen in hand. I can’t  write with a pencil though. I’ve tried if I didn’t like a sentence I put together or sometimes a whole paragraph, I kept erasing until I thought it was good enough to move on. It wasn’t helping me in the long run.

While using a word processor has a lot of pros to using it. I seem to get distracted with all the gadgets.  Trying to write my book on a laptop my imagination wasn’t allowed to explore. The blank screen kept staring back at me.

Some people may not like the strain writing with a pen does to your hand. At times I would write for hours and only stopped because of my hand cramping. I knew it was part of the job. But after a break I kept going and I can write a lot longer than I used too.

Here are some pros of using a laptop

  • You don’t have to type your book after you’ve finished the first draft.
  • You have all your research in one file.
  • All notes are in one place.

Here are some cons to using a laptop

  • You have distractions of the internet one click away.
  • It’s inconvenient to write when words are flowing and you have to wait for it to boot up.
  • It can be heavy to carry around with you everywhere.

Pros on writing with pen and paper

  • No internet distractions
  • You can’t erase sections or sentences
  • Its not bulky and hard to carry around

you can see your progress in the pages that stack up everyday

Here are some cons with writing with paper and pen

  • You have to type the book after you’ve written it
  • You can’t copy and paste sections and move them around
  • You can loose papers and have notes scattered everywhere

I know there is a lot more pros and cons to each one. Everyone is different in how they write and the tools they use. But these are the experiences I have had with each of them.
