Are you a chasing perfection? Trying to make everything perfect. Wanting to keep your house spotless, never a flaw in your work, novel or story. I know I do.
I wrote this post after a day of rewriting a short story. I’ve already written it twice. I was wasting time trying to get it just right.
As I work on my novel I love to have all the spelling and grammar right. Wanting each and every sentence to be perfect, but it can’t be done. I chase it wanting it to be just right from the start. But to my disappointment it’s not. In the end I am happy with the work I did. It might not be perfect but I’m happy with the progress I make each day.
I hit the delete button on my laptop erasing sentences and sometimes paragraphs to get it right. Every once in awhile I will write on paper with a pen so I can’t erase and start over. Sometimes putting music on helps me get creative and think about the story and write. Instead of thinking how I can make each sentence perfect.
And.
Your job can take longer than it needs to, because of perfection. Don’t let it steal your time do the best you can and move on.
Perfection is overrated. As humans we aren’t perfect. We all have flaws but we can work hard and do our best in everything we do. That’s all we should expect from ourselves and others.
